
Qatar Museums (QM) is a government entity established in 2005, dedicated to preserving and promoting Qatar’s cultural heritage and fostering creativity through a diverse array of museums, galleries, and cultural initiatives.

Major Projects and Museums
QM oversees several key cultural institutions:
- Museum of Islamic Art (MIA): Opened in 2008, MIA houses a comprehensive collection of Islamic art spanning 1,400 years, showcasing artifacts from across the Muslim world.
- Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art: Opened in 2010, Mathaf focuses on modern and contemporary Arab art, featuring works from the 19th century to the present.
- National Museum of Qatar (NMoQ): Opened in 2019, NMoQ tells the story of Qatar and its people through immersive exhibits, highlighting the nation’s heritage and development.
- 3-2-1 Qatar Olympic and Sports Museum: Opened in 2022, this museum celebrates the history of sports and the Olympic movement, featuring interactive exhibits and memorabilia.
Future Projects
QM has announced plans for several new cultural institutions:
- Art Mill Museum: Set to open in 2030, this museum will focus on modern and contemporary art, housed in a converted historic flour mill.
- Lusail Museum: Designed by Herzog & de Meuron, this museum will feature a collection of 19th-century paintings, photography, film, fashion, and decorative arts.
- Qatar Auto Museum: This museum will showcase the history and development of automobiles in Qatar, featuring permanent galleries and a restoration center for classic cars.
- Dadu, Children’s Museum of Qatar: Scheduled to open in 2026, Dadu will provide interactive learning experiences for children, fostering creativity and curiosity.
Public Art Initiatives
QM’s Public Art Department oversees the installation of artworks by renowned artists in public spaces across Qatar, aiming to connect people and places through art and enhance community engagement.
Through these initiatives, Qatar Museums plays a pivotal role in Qatar’s cultural development, aligning with the nation’s broader goals as outlined in the Qatar National Vision 2030.
